About Pumulani

Pumulani is the latest property to be launched by Robin Pope Safaris, the leading safari specialist in Zambia. The company was founded in 1986 and offers exclusive game lodges, house rentals and private walking safaris in the South Luangwa National Park.

Robin Pope Safaris is a small family business run by Robin, one of the best known bush guides in Africa, and his wife Jo. The couple are pioneers of responsible tourism in Zambia and since 1988 have supported a number of community projects including a local school. Recently they have grown to include Molecaten Africa, a Dutch family business.

Robin Pope Camps

Robin Pope Safaris runs three exclusive camps – Nkwali, Nsefu and Tena Tena. Nkwali is a gorgeous property on Robin’s own land overlooking the South Luangwa National Park. It sleeps a maximum of 12 guests in comfortable chalets with en-suite bathrooms. Elephants regularly visit the watering hole near the thatched dining area and the park is famed for its sightings of giraffe, leopard and wild dog.

Nsefu is a small private camp set on a sweeping bend of the Luangwa River, within the South Luangwa National Park. With six rondavels (traditional African houses), it is stylish and intimate and offers exceptional game viewing: private walking safaris, game drives and night drives.

Tena Tena is a remote camp with comfortable tents shaded by a grove of mahogany trees alongside the Luangwa River. Sleeping no more than 10 guests, Tena Tena is a wonderful place to unwind and lazily view game on the riverbanks and at a nearby lagoon.

Safari houses

For guests who want more privacy and home comforts, we also offer private houses in the African bush. Beautifully designed and set within spacious grounds, they provide the ultimate safari experience, ideal for families or groups of friends. Each house comes fully staffed with a house manager, private chef and waiters. Activities are tailor-made to the desires of individual guests, whether you want to watch the sun rise over the bush, take a walking safari in the national park or simply laze with a cocktail beside your private pool.

Walking Mobile Safaris

For guests who crave a heightened dose of adventure, we also offer Walking Mobile Safaris. Accompanied by seasoned guides, you will travel on foot for four or five days experiencing the thrill of the bush up close – every sight, sound and smell. Our Walking Mobile Safaris take place along the shores of the Mupamadzi River about a four-hour drive from our base at Nkwali. Guests sleep in comfortable walk-in tents with a wash stand and “safari cot” made up of mattress, sheets and blankets. For those unsure of whether they are ready for four or five nights camping in the wild, we also offer a two-night Bush Camping experience.
